Hi Vicki,
I found your blog through Cenantua's blog, really like what you're doing here. You've picked a very provocative and under-explored subject. I'll be adding you to my blogroll as well and look forward to your work.

Harry,

Thanks for the clarification--I have done a fair amount of thinking about that, but no doubt could stand to do more.

Best,

Vikki,

Really, I was referring more to setting rules for yourself - what you'll post about, what you won't, that sort of thing. These "rules" don't have to be stated for readers, just kept in the back of your head for your benefit. I do both on my blog, making it clear that I'm not going to talk modern politics or religion or my personal, non-ACW life. I'm not saying everyone should have these specific rules (though they have served me well), just that you need to have a set if only for yourself.

Harry Smeltzer,

Thank you for your advice. Yes, I've noticed that many blogs state rules of participation right up front. I haven't felt the need to do that, but I know it's best to set rules before problems occur.

Victoria,

Ditto what Drew said re: your Home Page. I'll add that you should set a few basic rules for your blog and follow them. Those rules differ from blogger to blogger, but folks should know what to expect when they visit.

Good luck!

Thanks for your comment, Drew, and for the good advice! Your blogspot on Civil War books and articles is one people will find very useful, and I've posted it on my blogroll.

Greetings Ms. Bynum,
Welcome! It's great to see you starting a blog. Like several other bloggers, I have a great interest in southern unionism. I've added you to my blogroll.

Just a bit of unsolicited advice as an old CW blogging vet.... one thing you might consider is to have your recent posts as the home page, instead of your static About Page. That way, the repeat visitors will be immediately presented with your latest posts without having to navigate your sidebar.

I look forward to reading your future posts,
Drew
