The Virginia Center for Civil War Studies at Virginia Tech presents a free screening of “Free State of Jones” on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the Lyric Theatre.

The latest installment in the Civil War Film Series showcases the fascinating true story of a group of black and white Mississippians who challenged the Confederacy and everything it stood for.

The 2016 film is rated R and stars Matthew McConaughey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

Dr. Victoria E. Bynum, author of the book “The Free State of Jones”, will be on hand to give a brief lecture and lead an audience discussion.

Admission is free and all are welcome.
